Chainsaw-wielding driver arrested after threatening family

Canadian police have arrested a 37-year-old man after a road rage incident in which he allegedly threatened a family in a car with a chainsaw.

The passenger in the car, mother-of-two Karine Cyr, told CBC she recorded the confrontation on Sunday evening with her mobile phone while passing through Saint-Jerome in Quebec.

The footage went viral after she posted it on Facebook.

It shows a man approaching the vehicle, swearing and revving a chainsaw close to the passenger window.

"You like this, huh?" he is heard saying French as a child inside the car screams.

The man ultimately left and went back to his vehicle.

Cyr said the driver had earlier cut them off and was driving erratically so her husband followed the vehicle to get the licence plate number and tell police where the man was going.

They ended up on a dead-end road and her husband parked his car, blocking the other vehicle from leaving.

Cyr said that is when the chainsaw-wielding driver got out of his car and threatened them.

Local police said the man could face several charges, including assault with a weapon.

The man is expected to face court today.
