Cat falls prey to hungry birds

Two birds have turned the tables on a cat by serving up its remains to their nesting babies in the US.

In a twist of the usual predator/prey relationship, the bald eagle parents fed the feline to its hungry family as it nested outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The meal was recorded last week on the 24/7 webcam of conservation group the Audobon Society of Western Pennsylvania.

Local cat owners took to Facebook asking whether they should be worried about their pets being targeted.

The group said while nature "isn’t always kind or pretty", the cat in question was most likely dead when it was found by the birds.

"To people, the cat represents a pet but to the eagles and toother raptors, the cat is a way to sustain the eaglets and help them to grow," spokeswoman Rachel Handel said.
