'Cannibal' frat boy asks for forgiveness

During an unaired interview with television's Dr Phil McGraw. the American student accused of killing a couple and chewing on a dead man's face pleads for forgiveness.

Last week a US judge ordered the public release of the interview with Austin Harrouff, who has been charged with the murders of John Stevens and his wife Michelle Mishcon at their home in Florida last August.

Video of the Skype interview with Harrouff, dubbed the ‘Cannibal frat boy’ by US media, who spoke from his hospital bed in October 16 was released on Tuesday.

Addressing friends of the couple, Harrouff said: "I'm sorry for their loss, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. I never wanted this to happen."

Florida deputies said they found the Florida State University student outside the couple's home biting the faces of Stevens and Mishcon, reports the Sun-Sentinel.

Since the killings, there has been speculation that he may have been under the influence of some sort of substance such as steroids, bath salts or flakka.

When asked by Dr Phil if he took steroids, Harrouff answers: "Never, never tried it once, never."

The couple were attacked shortly after Harrouff stormed out of a dinner with family members. His parents say he had been acting strangely. 
Police allege Harrouff hid in the couple's garage before a confrontation with them. After Stevens and Mischcon started yelling at him, he grabbed a machete and a fight ensued.

He spent more than a month in the hospital after the attack because he ingested toxic chemicals in the couple's garage.
