Callous carjacker makes off with pensioner’s car

A cold-hearted crook has flagged down a pensioner under the pretence of trying to offer assistance only to steal her car.

The elderly woman was sitting in her car with the keys in the ignition after doing some grocery shopping on November 16 at a supermarket in Heathfield, Sussex.

As she was about to drive away, a man approached her and tried to tell her something was leaking out of her Ford Focus.

The 72-year-old woman then got out of her car and attempted to inspect her bonnet, which is when the callous man got in and started the engine.

She stood in front of the car in an attempt to prevent the man from making a getaway.

But that did little to prevent the man from driving away and he clipped her knee in the process.

Also stolen, other than her car, was her handbag, house keys, cash and credit cards.

Police later found the car, but they report the woman was left "extremely shaken" after the robbery.

"Thankfully the victim is physically fine after the incident but is still extremely shaken," Police Constable Catherine Maddock said, as quoted by ITV.

"This is a concerning incident, but we are hoping someone might have seen the man responsible for the theft."

Police have released vision of the incident in an attempt to track down the carjacker.

He has been described as being aged about 45, approximately 175cm and stocky, with stubble.
