Noble steeds rescue women in abusive relationships by helping them move free of charge

The founders of a California home removal company that specialises in assisting women who are suffering domestic violence say they have rescued hundreds of women desperate escape from abusive relationships.

Aaron and Evan Steed founded Meathead Movers in 1997, after the high school athletes helped a friend’s parent move and undertook more home removal jobs as a way to earn extra money.

As Meathead Movers became more popular, the Steeds started receiving calls from distraught women with no money who needed to quickly move out before their abusers returned home.

The brothers decided to help the women in need and that they would offer their service free of charge.

During a job in 2000, an abuser returned home whilst the Meathead Movers were in the middle of the move.

Following this potentially dangerous situation, the brothers decided to partner with a local women’s shelter, to ensure the women and moving crew were both safe.

“What was good about that is, they could be vetting the requests for help, supporting the women with counseling, and making sure when we went in, the proper restraining orders were in place, or police were on hand if necessary,” Aaron Steed told Good News Network.

The company has now expanded into Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

Yesterday, the company launched the campaign #MoveToEndDV, an initiative that asks other businesses to offer their services and assist victims of domestic violence.

Mr Steed said his company's mission is to create 100 new instances of businesses offering services that could be useful for domestic violence victims, such as security systems and dog-kennel services.
