Bull launches woman into air at rodeo

Shocked spectators watched, mouths agape as a woman was launched more than three metres into the air by a bull at an event in Central America.

Just seconds after the thrashing, 500kg bull was released from its enclosure, it narrowed in on the woman at a popular Costa Rican bull-fighting event.

She tries to outrun the beast but it catches her with ease and with a casual flick of its head throws the woman over a fence and into the crowd.

The dramatic footage, uploaded to YouTube yesterday, was captured by television cameras filming the annual Zapote Bull Festival in San Jose.

Crowds watched on in terror as emergency crews raced to the woman's side but were relieved when she later smiled and rose to her feet.

Despite the woman's sudden ejection from the arena it appears she escaped the incident relatively unscathed.

The annual Zapote event runs during the Christmas holidays.

According to Costa Rican press reports 97 people were injured at this year's events, with 27 hospitalised for their wounds.
