Julie Bishop says overnight attacks are reminder of 'heightened risk' of global terrorism

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has condemned the "horrific, brutal" terrorist attacks that have killed more than 50 people in Tunisia, Kuwait and France.

She told media the Australian government was not aware of any link between the attacks or any threat to Australia.

Anybody concerned for friends or relatives is urged to contact them, or alert the consular hotline on 1300 555 135 if they cannot reach them.

"This is a terrible reminder of the heightened risk of terrorist attacks around the globe," Ms Bishop said.

She said it was not anticipated Cabinet would meet this weekend in response to the attacks, but the government was taking advice from security agencies.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is reviewing Australia's terror alert level.
