Base jumper on the run from $10,000 fine

A woman has been arrested as police continue to hunt an illegal base jumper who leaped from a ski lift in British Columbia.

The unidentified daredevil, who filmed himself jumping out of the Peak 2 Peak Gondola at Whistler Blackcomb resort last Thursday, is still on the run.

If caught, he may be forced to pay $10,000 in damage caused the lift cabin's doors and locking mechanisms after together with a female accomplice forced them open for the jump.

Police arrested a 23-year-old Ontario woman believed to be the woman believed to be his accomplice on Wednesday.

She had initially managed to convince officers that she was an innocent bystander after being caught at the scene, but was later arrested at her Whistler workplace after the video emerged. The man managed to slip out of the resort unnoticed following the jump.

The headcam footage shows him prising open the doors of the lift with the help of a female companion before squeezing through the gap.

He is pictured hanging onto the roof outside approximately 450m in the air before launching himself into the abyss.

"I did it … That's for you, McConkey," he screams, as he uses his parachute to steer himself to safety.

The stunt, uploaded online under the title "McConkey Reborn", was believed to be a tribute to the late Shane McConkey, who died base jumping in 2009.
