Baboon grope reporter arrested for shoplifting

A California news anchor who shot to internet fame for being groped by a baboon has allegedly been caught shoplifting after one of her victims recognised her.

Fox 40 anchor Sabrina Rodriguez and an accomplice stole 10 wallets worth $2500 from a Coach store in Folsom, police claim.

The alleged robbery took place in March 2013 but Rodriguez was only identified last week when the store manager recognised her on a TV news report.

Rodriguez handed herself in after warrant was issued for her arrest and was charged with grand theft, burglary and conspiracy.

She denies the charges and has taken a voluntary leave of absence from the TV network.

Rodriguez rose to viral fame last September when a baboon tried to put its hand down her top during a live TV report.

Meanwhile, the TV anchor's fiancé Nicholas Gray was arrested on arson and drugs charges in an unrelated case after a fire broke out at the couple's home in Sacramento.

One firefighter was injured in the blaze after the couple said their stove exploded.

Gray was booked for manufacturing meth and possessing marijuana and hashish for sale.
