An American woman murdered in Bali and stuffed into a suitcase died from asphyxiation, an autopsy has found.
The head of forensics at Bali’s Sanglah morgue said a blunt-force blow to Sheila Von Wise-Mack’s nose blocked her airway while another blow smashed one of the vertebrae in her neck, Fairfax Media reported.
The 62-year-old’s teenage daughter and her boyfriend are in custody under suspicion for the murder.
Heather Lois Mack, 19, and 21-year-old Tommy Schaefer may face the firing squad if found guilty, as police investigate upgrading the charges to premeditated murder.
According to police, the luggage containing Ms von Wiese-Mack had been wrapped up in a garbage bag and left in a waiting taxi for up to two hours before it was discovered.
Police allege the couple bludgeoned the 62-year-old to death with a heavy glass object before putting the body in a grey suitcase, wrapping it in a hotel bed sheet and loading it into a pre-ordered taxi.
