Renae Lawrence's jail friend busted with meth outside prison

A friend of Bali Nine convict Renae Lawrence has been arrested with drugs outside the prison where the Australian is locked up.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested last Wednesday outside Bali's Bangli Prison with 0.44 grams of crystal meth inside her scarf, police say.

Bangli drug squad boss Rahmat Aribowo told Indonesian news website detik.com: "There was also a prescription under the name of Renae".

Police have not alleged the drugs were intended for 37-year-old Lawrence.

But they confirmed the pair were "close friends" who had met inside the jail.

The woman arrested, whom police are referring to by the initials AEW, was released on parole in August.

She now faces her parole being revoked.

Lawrence was sentenced to 20 years' jail for her part in the syndicate of nine young Australians caught trying to smuggle 8.3 kg of heroin through Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport in 2005.

AEW, who is from Banyuwangi in East Java, is still being questioned.

It's not the first time Lawrence has made headlines this year.

In April a video was broadcast in Australia in which she claimed that when they were both imprisoned in Bali's Kerobokan jail, parolled Australian drug smuggler Schapelle Corby had confided she knowingly brought drugs into Indonesia, and had done it three times before her famous arrest.
