A Good Samaritan motorcyclist in the Philippines has taken the road rules into his own hands to help an ambulance get through traffic.

Video taken from inside the cab of the ambulance and uploaded onto Facebook shows the biker riding ahead through gridlocked traffic.

Most of the vehicles seem to ignore the sirens and flashing lights of the ambulance, but slowly make way as the motorcyclist rides alongside and gestures at the drivers.

Eventually the traffic moves over enough to give the ambulance a free path.

"While we were in the ambulance on the way to the Chinese General Hospital, this guy cleared the way for us," Facebook uploader Jaypee Castillo said.

"We weren't even able to thank him. Thank you for helping us even if you didn't know us.

"We hope to see you again so we can thank you in person."

The incident occurred in the capital Manila and the video was uploaded on August 8.
