AFP help in Indon murder case 'no problem'

Lawyers for an Indonesian woman accused of murdering her friend with a cyanide-laced coffee are unconcerned that Australian police are assisting in the case, saying they don't believe any incriminating evidence will be found.

"It (the evidence from Australia) will have no effect ... it is of no problem," Jessica Kumala Wongso's lawyer Yudi Wiboso told AAP outside court on Tuesday.

The comments came after a Central Jakarta District Court judge rejected a bid to have his client released from custody and to have her status as the prime suspect retracted in the highly publicised case.

In a pre-trial motion filed in court this month, Jessica's lawyers argued her ongoing detention was a "gross violation" of her rights as there was no evidence to support the prosecution case.

They also alleged police had carried out a search of her home without the proper documentation.

But Judge Wayan Netra found everything had been done correctly and there was no authority for the court to order her release or lift a travel ban on her.

In a case that has dominated local press, Jessica is accused of killing 27-year-old Wayan Mirna Salihin, whom she studied with in Australia.

It is alleged the pair, along with their friend Hani, met up at a popular Jakarta cafe on January 6 and that Jessica laced Mirna's Vietnamese iced coffee with cyanide.

Moments after sipping it Mirna collapsed and began convulsing.

She was confirmed dead a short time later in hospital.

Jessica was named the suspect in the murder on January 30 and has been in custody ever since.

The Australian Federal Police have since received approval from Justice Minister Michael Keenan to provide assistance to Indonesian authorities.

The approval came after the Indonesian government assured Australia the death penalty would not be "sought nor carried out" if Jessica were to be found guilty of the alleged murder.
