Meet the man who is willing to pay interns $53,000 a month

A company run by a British billionaire is offering students the chance to join his company as interns whilst getting paid $53,000 a month.

XTX Markets, a trading company based in London but with offices around the world, was founded by Russian born Alex Gerko, who has an estimated net worth of US$13.4 billion ($20.3 billion).

A job opening posted on the company's website for an AI research intern in New York City has a base salary of $US35,000 ($53,000) per month.

It also includes a "generous sign-on bonus" to assist with finding accommodation in one of the biggest cities in the world.

With the internship lasting 12-14 weeks, it means interns could net up to $185,000 in their short time at the company.

"This 12–14-week research-focused internship, is designed for highly motivated students in the middle years of their advanced degrees, who are eager to push the boundaries of high-risk, high-reward AI research and rapidly integrate cutting-edge ideas into our advanced strategies," the advertisement reads.

Applicants must be "pursuing an advanced degree, ideally a Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a related quantitative field".

The company states top performing interns will be considered for full-time roles in either New York or London.

XTX Markets was founded in 2015 by Gerko, who had previously worked at Deutsche Bank and a UK-based hedge fund called GSA Capital.

The company specialises in using algorithms in its trading to take into account different variables such as time and volume.
