The focus of the recovery operation for doomed AirAsia flight QZ8501 will shift focus today to finding the plane's black box.

Yesterday was the most successful day of the recovery yet, with 30 bodies retrieved from the Java Sea where the jet crashed.

Four have been identified, including that of 20-year-old Monash University student Kevin Alexander Soetjipto.

Authorities are confident that if conditions remain fine, divers will be able to reach the wreckage today and recover the black box.

There were 162 passengers and crew on board the plane that went down on Sunday, halfway through a flight from Indonesia to Singapore.
