The former fiancée of a convicted rapist and murderer featured in a controversial documentary series has withdrawn her support for her former flame, saying he is a “monster” who intimidated her into portraying him in a flattering light.

Speaking with HLN's Nancy Grace on Wednesday, Jodi Stachowski insisted the Netflix-commissioned series Making a Murderer, about the life and crimes of Steven Avery, was "all lies", revealing that she had received death threats in the mail from Avery, who has been sentenced to rot in Waupun Correctional Facility.

Avery served 18-years in prison for a sexual assault he didn't commit before he was exonerated by DNA evidence in 2003. Two years later, Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted of the murder of Teresa Halbach.

In the Nancy Grace interview Stachowski tells producer Natisha Lance she is adamant Avery is guilty of killing Halbach despite denying the murder.

Stachowski stated her time with Avery was so traumatic she resorted to self-half as a means of escape.

“He threatened to kill me and my family and a friend of mine,” she said.

"He's not innocent. I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go to the hospital and get away from him and asked them to get the police to help me.”
