Todd Woodbridge has navigated many weird and wonderful moments as host of Tipping Point Australia, but a wannabe bride awkwardly rejecting a designer ring had him stumped.

Todd had to take back a ring worth $10,000 after Elly, a radio host on the Sunshine Coast, decided not to play for it, declaring her partner could instead buy his own ring.

She had made it through to the show’s jackpot round, but after failing to get the jackpot counter over the machine’s tipping point, Todd declared “Jackpot Temptation” – offering her major money for further counters, but only if she gave up her current $3700 prize money.

Todd offered her five counters to keep the jackpot at $20,000, which Elly wasn’t impressed by, joking that thanks to his “Tennis money”, surely he could do better.

But then the host said he had “something special” for her – a custom-made engagement ring valued at $10,000.

“What about something like this?” he said, taking a ring box from his jacket pocket.

Turning to Elly’s boyfriend of four years, Dan, in the audience, the host joked it was “to get [him] out of a little trouble.”

Earlier in the episode, Elly had told him she couldn’t call Dan’s sister, Kaylee, her sister-in-law yet because Dan still hadn’t “popped the question.”

“Boo,” Kaylee reacted from next to her brother, who quipped: “No pressure.”

It was understandable that after that, Elly was suspicious that this was an elaborate plan Dan and the host had colluded on, but Dan denied he had prepped any of this.

After contemplating the offer, Elly chose to instead take the money she had earned.

Well, that didn’t go how the host had hoped! Nine

“$3700 is enough to get me to Japan, and maybe then he’ll pop the question,” she said.

Todd was stunned by the decision.

“We’re waiting for him to pop the question, but he needs a ring to do it with,” Todd said.

“He can buy that,” she replied, to gasps from the crowd.

“This is absolutely beautiful, though. One like this would be good, babe, just for reference,” she told Dan in the crowd.

Meanwhile, Dan and his sister watched on from the audience! Nine

Todd was stumped, asking if there was anything he could do to twist her arm, and cheers from the audience were clearly supporting her giving it a go – but Elly didn’t want to budge.

“I think there are too many gaps on that top shelf,” she said, looking at the machine. “I’ll take the money and run.”

While Elly walked away with $3700, the host had to swoop in and awkwardly place the ring back in his suit pocket – hopefully to be won by another more willing contestant in the future.
