Queen Elizabeth launches search for cushion maker at Buckingham Palace
When you're the Queen of England a trip to Country Road for new cushions just won't cut it. Which is why Queen Elizabeth is looking to hire a new curtain and soft furnishings maker for Buckingham Palace. The palace is about to undergo its first major renovation in over 60 years.
According to a job listing posted Monday on the royal website, the successful candidate will need to be ambitious as they'll be working between Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and St James' Palace, working across "more than a thousand rooms, all containing various furniture and furnishings."
You'd assume there'd be a princely wage for a noble duty like re-decorating a palace, but the successful candidate will receive just 22,000 pounds ($35,696) per year plus some benefits and pension contributions.
If you're a soft furnishings maker who's looking to play your part in "conserving and creating magnificent items that will be enjoyed by future generations" you have until the April 6 to submit your application.
