A high impact door can offer an enticing sneak peek into your home's interiors and can add a little hint of personality to an otherwise restrained pallet. “Don’t be afraid to be playful with the look of your entrance to create a welcoming pathway into the home,” says Dulux Colour Expert, Andrea Lucena-Orr.

Bold and deep colours, like blues are especially in for the New Year. “From lighter blues, greyish blues to deep, dark blues and even charcoal blues. The power of a blue door is particularly enhanced when combined with natural stone and brick or neutral render colours,” she says. “Add a new door mat or a colourful or patterned planter to complement and you can completely transform the appearance of your home."

This bold colour approach can be continued inside. While a feature wall can feel a little dated, transforming an interior door is a simple way to incorporate colour and make a statement. However Andrea says for an eye-catching effect it's crucial to contrast colour.

“When working with a soft beige brick or stone, an easy way to uplift the space and draw the eye to the entrance is to use a contrasting colour, such as a strong hue hot pink, as well as deep purples or an almost black," Andrea says.“Another option is to make darker brings pop by using whites and neutrals such as Dulux Natural White and Dulux Grand Piano, or even by adding a touch of bright red such as Dulux Hot Lips.”

The best part about painting a feature is it's quick, cost effective and low-risk, which is everything you want for 2016.
