While there's nothing wrong with embracing a trend, if your diehard obsession with all things Scandinavian is starting to wane, we've got some easy swaps to help you ease up on the monochromatic scheme.

1. Scandi rule: white on white

How to break it: It's all about white walls and matching floors in the world of Scandi decorating. The good news is if you want to take a step away from this clinical look, it's relatively easy. Try adding a panel of colour to the bottom half of a wall as a feature to create a point of interest.

2. Scandi rule: birch wood

How to break it: While we can't take a tour of the room in question, we're guessing you've got a couple of light-toned wood pieces (possibly from Ikea) floating around. Because it's a pretty inoffensive tone you can easily move away from the Scandi look just by replacing the monochromatic scheme around it. Add some vintage warm wood accents and add some plant life to bring some subtle contrast to the space.

3. Muted tones

How to break it: Muted tones, especially greys, are more than easy to adapt into non-Scandi vibes. Rich, earthy tones are making a big comeback this season, especially in bedding. Try adding a hit of olive green, ox blood red or a rich tan to contrast against your muted pinks, blues and greys.
