The flexible furniture range perfect for renters

Aussie renters have been gifted a new lease on life on the move, with Ikea debuting a range of flexible furniture.

The Swedish store visited 500 rental homes across the country to uncover the biggest problems facing tenants. Watch the video above for the full story.

“Whether you rent or own, we want everyone to have a stylish, affordable, beautiful and functional home,” the Head of Interior Design at Ikea Australia, Tiffany Buckins, said.

The range includes sofas with storage underneath, coffee tables that double as baskets, and racks that can store either bathroom towels or books and magazines.

The initiative is called "Rental Friendly" and includes a list of the 30 Ikea items every renter should own. They are items that are easy, affordable, convenient, good for storage, portable (so easy to take with you on your next move), and things you can personalise. 

Tiffany told A Current Affair her favourite item is the Utaker stackable day bed. A two pack retails for $199 and can be converted from a day bed into a double bed, or two single beds.

“It’s unfinished wood so you can treat it however you want and change the colour very easily.”

Tiffany also recommended using rugs for a dual purpose.

“These beautiful rugs on the floor actually act as pieces to be able to create zones within a space and, also, they protect floors.”

But are renters satisfied that the new range solves their problems?

The Block’s Ronnie and Georgia Caceres -- who rent in between development projects -- were impressed.

“For me, it's trying to style a home to make it feel like home,” Georgia said.

“This stuff is cool because it's easy to transfer, lots of storage solutions, it's affordable.”

The sofas and footstools with removable covers caught her eye.

“The selling point is that the covers are removable and you can wash them - being a mum of many kids who are messy and crazy, I love that option.”

Georgia said the range is not only practical, but stylish too.

“I would say it definitely is on trend… tick, tick, tick for me.”

For Ronnie, the iconic flat pack did not disappoint.

“The best bit about this Ikea furniture is that it's easy to put up -- there's been no arguments!”
