Michelle Barry from Frankland Islands
Michelle Barry is a Master Reef Guide based out of Cairns. Michelle is so invested in working on and protecting the reef that she gave up a corporate lifestyle in the US, and moved to Cairns to follow her dream career in the water.
She now leads interpretive guide trips focused on the issues the reef is currently facing and how visitors can actively help, through the Eye on the Reef Program - an online app used to consistently monitor the state of the reef.
She still recalls the tears of joy she had when she first arrived in the country and flew over the Great Barrier Reef and to this day, it is hard for Michelle to talk about how much she loves what she does without becoming overwhelmed with emotion.
