MAFS' groom Dave's emotional phone call as he speaks out about his dad's cancer: 'It hits home'
There's nothing quite like family coming together to celebrate a wedding, but these occasions can also stir up lots of emotion – and that was very much the case for new Married At First Sight groom Dave.
As gentle-giant Dave prepared to meet his new bride at the end of the aisle, he had an important phone call to make.

Dressed in his suit, he video called his father who is undergoing chemotherapy and was unable to make the wedding.
"My dad is in bed pretty sick at the moment, he's just started chemo for the fourth time," he 36-year-old explained.

"It hits home when he's not apart of something like this because he's one of the most important people to me."

His dad wished his "good luck" for his big day, as Dave told him he wished he could be there.
As he said goodbye, the groom was overcome with emotion.
"It's just the sickest I've seen him in a while," he explained.

He blinked away tears, saying it was time to "soldier on" for the "special day".

After immediately hitting things off with his larger-than-life bride Jamie, Dave used his wedding speech as an opportunity to open up about his dad.
"I've been alongside my dad helping with his fight with cancer for the past four since his diagnosis," he shared.

Bride Jamie and many of their guests wiped away tears as they learned of his story.
Dave said his dad's parenting for the reason he was the "big, kind gentleman you see today", and offered a promise to his new wife and her family.

"To Jamie's mother and father, I want you to find comfort in the fact that I give you my word that I'll be the man my dad raised me to be and treat your beautiful daughter the way she deserves," he said to a teary round of applause from his new in-laws.
The vulnerable moment brought him closer to his match, as Jamie marveled at how "brave" he was to share that with her.
"The fact you've taken time away from your dad, and you think I'm worthy of that time, is so special," Jamie told him, strengthening their initial connection even further.
