Highlights:
When winter hits most of Australia with chilly winds and grey skies, there’s a little slice of sunshine that refuses to get the memo. Noosa, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, holds a special place in David’s heart, so he wanted to share a little of ‘God’s country’ with you.
First up was a hike through Noosa National Park with local guide Joel McPherson. Stretching over 2500 hectares, the park is bursting with natural beauty from scenic headlands and turquoise waters to heath plains and rainforests. On the traditional land of the Kabi Kabi, the park also protects a number of threatened species. There are seven walking tracks through the park, David chose the Coastal Walk which has been designed for all levels of fitness from a gentle 1km stroll, to a full 10km workout. You might be lucky to spot a koala having a snooze or even a whale during migration!
Noosa’s main drag has transformed from a sleepy seaside track into one of Australia’s most iconic beachside boulevades with incredible restaurants and cafes. David settled on Season Restaurant right on the beachfront for a long lunch of local prawns, spanner crab and yellow fin tuna. The award winning restaurant also has a casual bar for coffee, cocktails and snacks.
After lunch, David swapped his cocktail for a surfboard, joining in on a surf lesson! Merrick’s Noosa Learn to Surf School has been operating since 1995 with lessons for 7 years and up. Located very close to Noosa town centre with warm water year-round, their friendly team will have you riding the waves in no time!
Noosa truly offers a slice of paradise that stays with you long after you leave.
