Indulge your love of maple syrup at this quirky Japanese spa

A Kanagawa Prefecture spa has just opened a maple syrup bath. Yes, a maple syrup bath.

Just imagine it: hot, sticky and delicious. Picture it sloshing into your armpits, clinging to your hair and filling all those bodily crevices that usually remain untouched (by maple syrup, at least).

Hakone Kowakien Yunessun Spa came up with the idea to help promote Moringa Hot Cake Mix (a popular Japanese pancake mix) on their 60th birthday. Of course, it's not 100 percent maple syrup – that'd cost the spa around $30,000 just to fill the bath, there's also vanilla scented water mixed in.

The maple syrup element is poured in thrice daily to keep it gluggy and sweet. Considering that, the bath is disconcertingly cheap at around $33 (¥2900) and lasts until April 25.

But that won't spell the end of the spa's bizarre attractions, though. They've been making a name for themselves for years pouring red wine, green tea, sake, coffee and even ramen into baths.
