Layovers can be the worst part of flying - unless you're in a top-tier airport.
A new study by TripSIM analysed 50 of the world's busiest international airports to find out which ones truly deliver the best layover experience, based on six factors: restaurants and cafés, shops, entertainment amenities, showers and on-site hotels, connectivity and tech amenities, and rest zones.
"Layovers used to be something travellers just tolerated," travel expert Arber Abdullahu says.
"Now, people actively notice whether an airport makes those hours easier or harder. Good food, fast internet, and somewhere to sit or rest quietly can completely change how a trip feels."

10. Denver International Airport, USA
This airport has over 100 shops and another 100 places to eat, meaning you'll find something you like no matter how picky you may be.
If you've got time to kill, head to the open-air observation deck (complete with fire pit for winter) to watch the planes go by.
9. Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, USA
Atlanta's airport is designed for comfort, with rotating art exhibits and live music performances throughout the terminals.
There are also private rooms for rent by the hour for rest and naps in multiple concourses.
8. Tokyo International Haneda Airport, Japan
Tokyo Haneda Airport offers a solid all-round experience, with plenty to keep you entertained. It's also super clean and efficient, contributing to a smoother layover overall.
The observation deck lets you see planes taking off and landing up close - on clear days, you'll also be able to see Tokyo Tower and the Tokyo Skytree.
7. London Heathrow Airport, UK
London Heathrow ranks seventh overall, driven largely by its strong food scene, with a wide range of options across the terminals, from Gordon Ramsay to Pret A Manger.
If you can get into the British Airways Lounge, the one in T5 is the largest, and even has a cinema & champagne bar.
5. Doha International Airport, Qatar
Access to showers and on-site hotels make this airport great if you have time to kill.
The study highlights its modern infrastructure and premium facilities aimed at transit passengers.
It's also got a glass-ceilinged indoor garden, to bring some zen to your layover.
4. Hong Kong International Airport, China
Hong Kong International Airport delivers consistency across the categories, with no major weaknesses.
It has plenty of amenities for layovers, including pay-per-use lounges, free wi-fi, dedicated family zones, massage parlours, and the unique Sky Garden.
3. New Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport, India
New Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport ranks third overall and leads the entire study for food, placing first for restaurants and cafés.
Its showers and rest zones are limited, but its dominance in dining helps push it high up the list.
2. Dubai International Airport, UAE
Dubai International Airport ranks second overall and stands out most for retail and comfort.
With great shopping options, plus plenty of showers and on-site hotels, there's a lot to do if you have a long layover.
The airport has health clubs with pools and gyms, a gaming lounge, relaxing zen gardens, sleep pods, and kids playgrounds.
