The unexpected hot spot tourists are flocking to in Nashville
Despite being North America’s music capital, an old print shop in downtown Nashville has become a must-see destination for anyone travelling through Nashville.
Every year more than 100,000 people flock to Hatch Show Print, one of the oldest operating letterpress print shops in the United States.
The business was started in 1879 by two sons of preacher man, Charles and Herbert Hatch. Eventually their distinctive posters promoting everything from travelling preachers to vaudeville earnt them a following.
Today, the shop prints around 700 poster designs each year, each uniquely designed using hand-set wood and hand-carved wooden blocks.
While digitally printing posters is a lot simpler and efficient, Hatch is one of the few print shops survive the digital revolution, which no doubt has an influence on its appeal. In 1992, the non-profit Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum made a contract with Hatch commissioning them to design and create posters for every single Ryan Auditorium show.
Throughout the year, Hatch Show Print exhibits a mixture of its original posters, as well as local artists’ wood prints block. Fans of music and history alike can should not skip this during your next trip.
