Most people know by now that buying anything at the airport — coffee, water or last-minute snacks — can be an expensive endeavour.

But one traveller has shared his outrage over the meagre breakfast he recently received at Dublin Airport, that set him back nearly $28!

Journalist Kevin Doyle took to Twitter to share a photo of the meal, which was made up of four slices of toast, two sausages, two cups of coffee, and a bottle of water.

A traveller paid close to $28 for this breakfast at Dublin Airport. Twitter

"Dublin Airport has sorted out the security queues - but breakfast is another story," he wrote.

"No bacon, no pastries… and €18.65 for this gourmet selection."

The image was quickly flooded with comments, with some calling the offering "shocking" and "criminal".

"This place is madness, 18euro for that ffs, this needs [to be] stopped," one person responded.

Meanwhile, others said they avoided buying food at the airport for this exact reason.

"That's why we bring our own sandwiches when travelling! Learned this rip-off message long ago between the airport and airlines, plus they are lot tastier," one person said,

While another agreed: "Always eat before going to the airport or bring your own food."
