A recent study by Forbes Advisor compared 60 international cities across seven key metrics, and has revealed the least and most risky cities for travellers.
Least - Tokyo, Japan
High on the travel list for Australians already, Tokyo is considered the second safest city for tourists with a score of 10.72 out of 100.
It has the lowest health security risk, reflecting the level and quality of healthcare services and infrastructure. It has the Best travel safety rating from the State Department (level 1, exercise normal precautions) and the fifth lowest infrastructure security risk, reflecting the availability and quality of city infrastructure.
Least - Singapore
With a score of 0 out of 100, Singapore is considered the safest city for travellers.
It has the Best travel safety rating from the State Department (level 1, exercise normal precautions), is the Lowest for natural disaster risk and the second lowest health security risk, reflecting the level and quality of healthcare services and infrastructure.
It also has the Second lowest infrastructure security risk, reflecting the availability and quality of city infrastructure, and the second lowest digital security risk, reflecting the ability of citizens to freely use the internet without fear of privacy violations, identity theft and online attacks.
Most - Manila, Philippines
As for the more risky places to travel to, according to the study, Manilla in the Philippines scored 91.49 out of 100. It also scored poorly for crime risk, health, infrastructure and digital risks.
Most - Karachi, Pakistan
With a score of 93.12 out of 100, Karachi Pakistan is the second most risky spot for travellers.
It ranks highest for personal security risk, reflecting risk from crime, violence, terrorist threats, natural disasters and economic vulnerabilities. It also has the second worst travel safety rating from the State Department (level 3, reconsider travel).
Most - Caracas, Venezuela
Considered the most risky for travellers is Caracas in Venezuela with a score of 100 out of 100.
It has the highest health security risk, reflecting the low level and quality of healthcare services and infrastructure, the highest crime risk, and the worst travel safety rating from the State Department (level 4, do not travel).
