The best travel destinations for anyone who is keen on taking a solo trip
Solo travel is really having its moment in the sun.
More than 50 per cent of Aussies are planning to take a solo trip in the next two years, with middle-aged women leading the charge.
But where is the best place to go when you're travelling alone?
Travel site Kayak has crunched the numbers, looking at data including prices, safety scores, and things to do, to determine the best cities for holidaymakers on their own.

10. London, UK
The English capital city of London has a lot to offer for solo travellers.
Though the exchange rate isn't really in our favour at the moment, there are plenty of free things to see and do around the city.
9. Mexico City, Mexico
Mexico's capital city is a sprawling, bustling metropolis with amazing food, a vibrant nightlife scene, and tons of culture.
It has the highest average hotel rating for solo travellers and relatively low accommodation prices compared to other spots on the list.
8. Dubai, UAE
Dubai might not be your first thought for an epic solo travel spot, but according to Kayak data, it has the best perception of safety and the lowest average hotel nightly rate.
It's also a great stopover spot to extend your holiday by a few days on your way home.
7. Toronto, Canada
Torono is an often-overlooked destination in Canada, but is a great place to explore as a solo traveller.
With reasonably-priced meals and hotels, it's got a fun vibe and plenty of galleries and museums to check out.
6. Dublin, Ireland
The average costs for meals out in Dublin is pretty low. It also has a lively pub scene, so even if you're by yourself you're guaranteed a fun night out.
5. Milan, Italy
You can't go wrong with a trip to Italy.
While Milan is busy and thriving, there are peaceful pockets along the river where you can chill out with a wine and watch the sun set.
4. Paris, France
As one of the most walkable cities in the world, Paris is a dream for solo travellers who love to explore.
The City of Light has the most museums, theatres, and concert halls of any other city on this list, and plenty of cheap eats to keep your holiday going as long as possible.
3. Montreal, Canada
This French-speaking city has the second-highest perception of safety of all the places ranked by Kayak.
Visit in the summer for festivals and plenty of live music - and don't leave without eating poutine.
2. Vancouver, Canada
Canada again!
Many people skip over Vancouver in favour of heading out to famous ski fields like Whistler, but the city is a great spot for solo travellers.
Not only can you get there via direct flight from Australia, but it's also a cheaper option than many US cities.
