Rare snowfall turns Chinese desert resort into winter wonderland

Rare rimes and snowflakes have made a Gobi Desert resort in northwest China's Gansu Province a winter wonderland.

The Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring resort in Dunhuang City saw this year's first snowfall on Monday. Then rimes appeared on early Wednesday, to the great delight of local residents and tourists alike.

"It seldom snows in Dunhuang, so this kind of rimes are even harder to come by. I went out this morning to take photos. It's so beautiful," a local resident told Reuters.

Known to the world as "the first spring in desert", the Crescent Spring is situated at the foot of Mingsha Mountain and is surrounded by sand dunes. Seen from afar, the Crescent Spring resembles a crescent moon, hence its name.
