Dream job alert: Get paid to travel the world on a cruise liner

Bradley Johnston

Sure, the nine-to-five grind is one way to make a living, but what if we said you could trade it all in, hop on a cruise liner and travel the world instead? Royal Caribbean is on the hunt for an Apprentice Shore Explorer to discover the world, documenting their experiences on Instagram along the way.

Before you start drafting your letter of resignation, listen up.

The three-week apprentice-ship will see the lucky chosen candidate visit Alaska, Portugal, Japan, Norway, and Dubai, plus a tour of a private island in the Caribbean. Photographer Russ Francis will mentor the apprentice for the duration, with their main job being to snap some killer shots and curating daily Instagram stories, posts and IGTV videos.

Testing out land-based experiences will also be on the to-do list of the chosen candidate, giving Royal Caribbean some hot tips on what to include and what to boot from its 2019 itineraries.

If the chance to travel the world for free weren’t enough, the Apprentice Shore Explorer is set to be paid $10,800 (£6000) for their time, based on an annual salary of $187,800 (£104,000).

“We're looking for an adrenaline junkie who is not only hungry for adventure, but also has a unique ability to capture a moment and tell a story in a simple social media post,” said Royal Caribbean International.

‘We already offer a huge amount of incredible, once-in-a-lifetime, on-land experiences as part of our cruise holidays. By launching this position, we're hoping that the winning candidate will take our shore excursion programme to the next level.”

Unfortunately for some Aussies, the role is only open to applicants who hold a valid Irish or UK passport – so if your Instagram game is strong, and you're one of those lucky duel passport holders, start sprucing up that resume to apply before midnight on Friday, March 1, 2019.
