From nail-clippers to barefoot bandits, drunken outbursts, and arguments over luggage, seats, or the window shade, we've seen our fair share of unruly passenger behaviour on flights.

So too has travel expert Ben Rice, who has 'clocked hundreds of thousands of air miles in the past 40 years', and seemingly worked out a way to avoid the worst kind of flyers.

"Things seem to be getting worse for the average jet-setter," he said in a piece for Wealth of Geeks.

"It isn't hard to find countless videos and memes featuring members of the flying public throwing shade, fists, or even drinking vessels at one another," he continued.

"Thankfully, I have not encountered any mile-high malice; I have yet to help duct-tape a hostile human to a chair or be at the whim of a patience-sapped air Karen."

However, he said there are two things to consider if you're wanting a more peaceful flying experience.

The airline and the time of the flight.

"Of course, the airline you use is a dealbreaker. Without naming names, we all know which ones to avoid," he wrote.

"My tip: don't fly at night when people are more likely to drink before flying or in the early morning when they are irritable.

This advice could definitely come in handy if you're likely going to try to get some shuteye on the flight as well.

Though Rice also shared his thoughts on a common travel buy that he just isn't a fan of.

"I am no fan of the neck pillow as it is too warm and forces my neck into a rigid position," he said.

"I favour taking a scarf, which I roll up and wedge behind my neck, and maybe a sweater (or airline pillow) behind my lumbar region."
