$2 item travellers say should be in your suitcase for every holiday
For people that travel quite regularly there are likely specific items you make sure to have in your suitcase every time.
For me, it's an eye mask for sleeping as you never know whether your accommodation is going to have a solid set of block-out blinds. Plus it comes in handy on the plane as well if the person if front of you hasn't worked out how to turn the brightness down on their screen once the cabin lights are dimmed.
But there is one simple $2 item that travellers swear should always be on your packing list, sharing their advice in a Reddit thread that asked for people's "best travel hacks".

"Carry a small roll of athletic tape. It's not as strong as duct tape, but it is useful in emergencies," one person shared.
The item, that you can buy from supermarkets and chemists, will come in especially handy if you're an active traveller likely to clock up plenty of steps.

"[It is] handy for blister prevention," one person pointed out.
A tip that was very much appreciated in the comments.
"I usually struggle with toes pinched together in my hiking boots, which a bandaid can help. But tape does seem like a better option, I'll give it a try," one person said.
Of course, duct tape is the other option if you need something sturdier.

Similarly, other travellers said having a few plastic bags or zip lock bags can be a great thing to have on hand.
"I always bring along multiple plastic bags in case I need to separate clothing within my suitcase," one person wrote.
"This is really good," another agreed. "Plastic bags to put dirty clothes in it, shoes and so on."
Seasoned traveller and Getaway presenter Catriona Rowntree has previously offered another tip - should you forget to pack any bags yourself.
The shower cap from hotels rooms is something she dubbed "endlessly useful".
"When you're travelling, a shower cap can be used for all sorts of different things," she shared.
"You might want to have one last swim before you leave your holiday. Then, wrap the wet cozzie up in the shower cap and you can pack it away."

Another packing tip plenty of travellers say is an important one is to make sure you strategically have spare items of clothing in your carry on.
And if you are travelling with multiple bags, split the key items across both.
"If you are checking more then 1 bag when flying, cross pack clothes (1/2 in each bag). That way if the airline loses a bag, you still have some clothes," one person explained.
"If you checked a bag, make sure to carry a change of clothes (at least undergarments and a t-shirt ) in your carry-on. I had to wear the same set of clothes for the first four days of my honeymoon, until my bag caught up to me," another lamented.
