'Mom, I'm Fine' Instagram account lets world traveller's mum know he's safe

A year ago, Jonathan Quiñonez decided to quit his job and travel. Naturally, he didn't want his poor mum worry too much—especially when he was visiting the more dangerous parts of the world.

Eventually, Jonathan found himself in Cuba, and that's where things got a little tricky. 

"With the time difference, the Communist party blocking the internet and the prices of phone calls, it was difficult to communicate with my friends and family,"  he told The LADBible.

To make sure his mum wasn't worrying over his safety, Quiñonez came up with a brilliant solution that would allow him to have the trip of a lifetime, while keeping mum's peace of mind: The @MomImFine Instagram account was born and, a year later, 273,000 people have joined Quiñonez's mum in following his fearless adventures.

"Mums are always worried. Especially mine. It was complicated to be in contact with her so I decided to give a positive message and show her that the world is a beautiful place and that I am fine," he explained.

He added: "I started to take pictures in funny or scary situations with my sign. Whatever the situation was, I always found a way to give my message."

A year later, Quiñonez is still on his holiday and continues to post every few days, each photo a little more dangerous than the last. And still, every post has a sweet update for his mum so she can follow her son's adventures, and attempt to get a good night's sleep.
