Passengers warned not to put this on their luggage tag, according to travel expert

It has always been an essential item to add to your suitcase - a luggage tag.

You might even have a fancy personalised one stamped with your initials

But a travel expert has warned that there's one thing you should never write on there before heading for a flight.

Mike Harvey, the managing director at 1st Move International removals has revealed his list of do's and don'ts for bag tags.

And top of the list of blunders is something you probably have on there.

"It's crucial to balance providing essential contact information with protecting your personal security," Harvey told Huffington Post.

"For your privacy and security, avoid including your full home address."

Also don't be tempted to put anything on there about where you're travelling to, or your passport number either, he said.

So what is okay to write?

Harvey said that obviously, listing your full name is a must.

It's also okay to write down your phone number, which could allow airline staff to easily contact you if your bag does disappear.

Finally, pop your email address on the label.

You might even want to consider setting up a new one just for travelling, he said, just in case somebody sees it and makes a note of it.

Meanwhile a baggage handler said that even though the airline tags your bag with those paper labels, it is important to use your own label too.

You should also put a note inside with your travel details on it, such as your airline reservation code.
