The anti-family fee? Jetstar to charge parents flying with babies on laps

Jetstar will now be charging parents a new $30 fee to carry infants on their laps during domestic flights. 

Starting on Monday May 15, 2017, the budget Aussie airline announced that parents will be required to pay the fee each way for their infant to fly, even without a seat.

For international flights, including trans-Tasman, the fee goes up to $50. 

Previously children under two years old who did not require a seat were able to travel for free on domestic flights within Australia, New Zealand and even between both countries. 

So, it's perhaps no surprise that some parents were less than impressed when they learnt about the new plans.

But when they complained to Jetstar via social media, the airline hit back…

It comes just the day after the airline celebrated their "one big family" for Mother's Day with stories of cabin crew mother and daughter teams.
