Jetstar's legendary 'Return for Free' sale is back with $55 return flights

Jetstar is celebrating its birthday by slashing the price of domestic fares, bringing back its legendary 'Return for Free' promotion.

Launching today, the budget carrier will be discounting 340,000 seats, with return flights to Aussie destinations starting from just $55 (Melbourne to Sydney).

The sale fares apply to travel periods from October 2021 onwards, spanning popular destinations including Busselton (Margaret River), Gold Coast, Cairns, Hobart, Uluru and Hamilton Island.

Among the stand-out deals in the birthday sale, are return flights from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Sydney from $55, Sydney to Launceston from $89, and Gold Coast (Coolangatta) to Melbourne (Avalon) from $95.

Jetstar members get early access to the sale from midday today, with fares going on sale to the rest of the public at midnight.

Aussies keen to nab sale fares before it goes on sale to the public can join Club Jetstar for $55 a year. The annual membership unlocks early access to sales, member-only fares and discounts on bags and seat selection.

The airline has also introduced greater flexibility to bookings, with customers offered credit vouchers in the event of changes to border restrictions in the future.

The sale announcement comes a day after Virgin Australia launched record-low $39 flights between their most popular Sydney-Melbourne route.

In the latest move in the airlines' ongoing price wars, Jetstar's birthday sale one-ups their competitor, with $55 return flights for their Sydney-Melbourne service (which works out to be approximately $27.50 each way).
