The move comes as rival domestic carrier Rex Airlines launches an "unprecedented" fare sale, boasting no Christmas blackout period — meaning Aussies can nab flights during the peak holiday period for cheap.

The Rex sale has already triggered a Domino effect of sales from carrier rivals, including Jetstar and Virgin Australia, who has just launched a massive 1.7 million seat sale.
