When it comes to beating jet lag there are plenty of things travellers can do before and during a flight to help.

But what you do once you've arrived at your destination is just as important, according to a flight attendant.

Brittany James has worked for Emirates for over nine years, and shares with 9Travel the one thing you should definitely avoid after landing.

"Don't nap, don't sit down," she tells us.

As a crew member, Brittany says she is used to having short layovers and wants to make the most out of her time at a destination.

So there is definitely no room for jetlag.

"I took my sister to Italy for the first time in July this year, and she's not travelled out of Australia. So I said, 'we'll fly into Rome, we'll do one night and we're going to do this flight attendant style'," Brittany shares.

"We get to the hotel, and she's like,' right? So we nap first?' Don't even think about it, girlfriend, you get up, because I think if you do sit down you just end up just wasting your time, right? So push through until the evening and then get a good sleep.

"Even if you crash early, at least you've made it as long as you can. Because if you have a nap you're playing a dangerous game and might find yourself waking at 3am."

As for what she does herself to keep fresh on a long-haul flight, Brittany says it's all about hydration and good skincare.

"Just drink lots and lots of water. I take an empty bottle with me, and I'm always asking the crew, and they will come around, I'll just fill up my bottle," she tells us.

"I also like to use a little face mask, because I think it breaks up the flight as well. And it's nice because you sometimes get off the flight and you just don't want to feel yuck when you arrive."

"And a good neck pillow is always needed."
