Woman claims airport staff stole and tried to sell clothes from her luggage

Having your luggage go missing in transit is one thing. Arriving at your destination to discover items have gone missing from within your bags? That's quite another.

An American Airlines passenger says she felt "violated" when she found herself in this very situation after recently jetting off for a weekend away.

Kinley Rice claims more than $AUD1400 worth of belongings were removed from her luggage during a recent trip from Tulsa International Airport in Oklahoma.

In an even more disturbing twist, she later discovered one of the items listed for sale online, leading her to suspect airline baggage staff were responsible.

The belongings missing from Rice's suitcase included a brand new jacket from Patagonia, Lululemon leggings, a jumper and jeans, as well as her toiletries bag.

Speaking to news outlet KJRH, Rice says she was particularly rattled to notice a luggage tag bearing her personal details had also seemingly been pinched.

"I was just so uncomfortable because I didn't know who had my information," she said, adding that she was staying in a hotel room by herself.

"I didn't know who could contact me ... anybody can find you through your phone number."

Rice hadn't suspected the involvement of airport staff until she spotted a Patagonia jacket identical to hers posted for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

She quickly determined it was, in fact, her jacket, as the barcode on the tags displayed in the Facebook photo matched the one on Rice's original receipt from Patagonia.

Continuing her investigative work, she searched the jacket's seller on Facebook and found they worked in the baggage section of Tulsa International Airport.

American Airlines says it is "very concerned" over Rice's allegations and is investigating the incident in conjunction with its baggage handling contractor, Piedmont Airlines.

The airline has also offered to reimburse her $AUD1400 for the lost items.

Rice has also filed a report to Tulsa Police Department.

"You think you can trust people when you pay money for them to be responsible for your bag," she commented to KJRH.
