The Kate Middleton effect is a well-known phenomenon in the fashion industry – as soon as the Duchess is photographed wearing a dress, the item quickly sells out in stores around the world.

But it appears Middleton's influence has extended beyond the sartorial, with consumers now jumping to emulate the royal's holidays.

Since the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their two children arrived in Canada for an eight-day tour, online searches for hotels in the region have surged.

According to Hotels.com, Canada has seen a 60 per cent increase in searches, when compared to the last 12 months.

The website also reported that Vancouver was a particularly popular location, seeing a 50 per cent surge in searches.
