Exploring the world’s largest snow park… and it’s bizarrely found in Dubai

Stephanie Coombes

The last place that you’d expect to hit the ski slopes is in Dubai, where temperatures frequently reach 36 degrees Celsius. But one facility has turned this desert metropolis into a skier’s paradise with an absolutely enormous snow park.

Ski Dubai stretches over 22,500 square metres, which roughly equates to three football fields, and is refrigerated to around -4 degrees Celsius.

Inside the park the longest ski run is an impressive 400 metres with a drop of 60 metres. If you don’t fancy the idea of walking to the top, you don’t have to. A chairlift will deliver you to the start.

If you’re looking for something more challenging, Ski Dubai has the world’s only indoor black run where experienced athletes can test their skills.

Visitors can catch their breath while watching a group of, likely very confused, penguins who live in the facility.

To top off the somewhat surreal experience, visitors can grab a meal or a hot drink at the indoor chalet.

Make sure you take off your ski jacket before exiting – the stifling heat of the Dubai desert will be waiting for you at the door.

An adult’s all-day ski slope pass, which includes clothing and equipment hire, is $112
