Spain's largest maze takes hours to escape from

The northern village of Villapresente has unveiled a new tourist attraction this month, with the opening of Spain's largest maze.

The maze is 5000sqm and is filled with more twists and turns than a telenovela. The shortest time to escape so far is 30 minutes, but the average is between one and two hours.

Over 4000 trees were used in the construction of the maze; forest ranger and pinewood seller Emilio Perez is the mastermind behind the devious attraction. When his business was suffering during a recession, he decided to use his excess timber to create something enjoyable, and the giant maze was born.

Not only is the maze massive, you need to walk more than 5kms to escape, and it's incredibly hard to decipher. In fact, it's so hard that Perez includes his phone number on every ticket bought in case the hundreds of guests flocking to the maze need a helping hand.

But with the average height of the maze at 2.5m, if Perez is screening calls the day you get stuck, you might be spending the night curled up among the greenery.
