Which of these two holiday spots looks more appealing to you?
As travellers around the world make their way to Europe for the continent's warm summer months, the popular spots - the Greek Islands, the Italian Riviera, Amsterdam - become flooded with tourists.
That means there are plenty of other places in Europe which are just as beautiful, but nowhere near as crowded.
Read through to see some of our favourite European spots that are a little more under-the-radar.

In recent years, Croatia has exploded in popularity, thanks to its sandy coastlines, sailing opportunities, and stunning national parks. While Split and Dubrovnik have become overrun with tourists, places like Šibenik still remain relatively untouched.

Here you'll find a quiet city built into a hill, with the windy cobblestone streets you'd expect from a historic town - minus all the tourists. Rent a bike and cycle to nearby Zblace, which has great hiking and swimming spots.

Bologna, Italy
Keen for an Italian getaway but don't want the crowds of Venice or Rome? Bologna is the answer. The town has a massive university, which means the city has a great restaurant, cafe, and bar scene, but it's never too pricey.

The streets are charming to wander around, with plenty of sightseeing to do, when you're ready to walk off the pastries and pizza you'll be consuming every day.
Must try: Eat spaghetti bolognese in the city where it was invented. Order the ragu tagliatelle at Osteria dell'Orsa.

If you're after a Euro summer vibe that involves sipping cocktails on the beach, soaking up the warm sun, swimming in crystal clear water, eating fresh seafood and doing it all on a budget, you simply can't go past Albania.

Himare should be your first destination - it's a small seaside region with just enough restaurants, bars, and people to make it fun, but with hardly any crowds. Accommodation will set you back less than $50 a night, and a whole meal out shouldn't cost more than $10.
Must do: Hire a kayak and head around the cliffs, where you'll find beaches only accessible by water.

Amsterdam is one of the European capitals most hit by overtourism - but just a short train ride south, you'll find Utrecht. The calm city has the same canals and striking architecture, the same great cuisine and lovely people, but lacks the huge number of crowds.

Must do: Rent a bike and ride out to Teahouse Rhijnauwen for the best pancakes of your life.
Thessaloniki, Greece
Most people skip over the Greek mainland in favour of the islands, but are very much missing out. Thessaloniki is a port city in northern Greece, with a staggering amount of history to it.
It's also just a really fun place.
