Couple build eco-friendly castle hotel from clay, hay and stone

Nestled in the hills in "The Valley of the Fairies", in Transylvania, Romania, there's a new hotel which looks as unreal as its surroundings sound.

A fairy tale castle, made completely from clay, hay and stone, has just been completed after a couple quit their jobs and life in Bucharest to open the eco-stay.

In 2014, Razvan and Gabriela Vasile drafted the help of an architect to build their hobbit-style castle hotel which opens in the next few months.

Made from natural materials, Castelut de Lut boasts to having ten rooms but with a modern twist – there's air conditioning and wood fires in each room.

There will also be a restaurant on site, which will source all its food locally and serve local Romanian dishes. It's all very authentic.

And it's the ultimate retreat, with there being little to do in the small village of Porumbaca de Sus except for relax and enjoy walking the nearby mountains.

Despite not even opening their doors, the hotel's Facebook page has already attracted 18,000 likes, with would-be visitors wanting to know when they can book in.
