In Cancun, swim a spectacular underground river

Hannah Blackiston

It turns out, floating down an underground river is the ultimate family activity. This video shows Ivan Gonzalez's family taking full advantage of the wonder of the Blue River – which floats under the Yucatan Peninsula.

If you find yourself in Cancun, Mexico, head to Xcaret Park.

The Blue River is one of three rivers you can explore in the park, the other two are the Maya River and the Manatee River. All three flow out to the ocean, next to mangroves which are home to flocks of pink flamingos.

The underground river is just one of a whole host of activities available at Xcaret Park. The park explores Mayan and Mexico history and culture with a variety of traditional activities alongside a Butterfly Pavillion and Jaguar Island.

Entry to the park starts at $100 per person, and you can save money by booking in advance online. There are also packages available for families.
