The best beach in Southeast Asia has been crowned - and a stay here costs just $86 per night
Southeast Asia has a lot going for it: great food, warm weather, a rich culture, and, of course, plenty of incredible beaches.
But which are the best?
To find out, experts at booking platform Omio analysed 50 beaches across ten countries, from headline names to hidden coves.
Based on hotel and flight prices, on-beach food and drink costs, crowd levels, and beach and water quality, they've narrowed down the top ten.
10. Blue Lagoon, Luzon, Philippines
The Philippines has no shortage of postcard-worthy beaches, but Blue Lagoon is one of the best.
Found on the island of Luzon, it offers a quiet respite from the crowds, and has hotels from just $33 per night.
9. Pantai Batu Buruk, Kapas Island, Malaysia
Four of the top ten places on this list are in Malaysia - a sign that the country is challenging traditional go-to destinations like Thailand and Bali.
This beach has great sunset views and is conveniently located close to the city.
8. Teluk Dalam Besar, Redang Island, Malaysia
Another Malaysian spot, this beach (commonly known as Flora Bay), is home to a resort surrounded by lush greenery and a calm, sheltered beach.
7. Doc Let Beach, Nha Trang, Vietnam
Vietnam is a popular spot for Aussies at the moment, and this beach should definitely be on the itinerary.
It is located about an hour north of Nha Trang and is a good spot for a peaceful day out of the city.
6. Teluk Keke Beach, Perhentian, Malaysia
This beach known for its crystal-clear waters and shallow, vibrant coral reefs, making it a popular spot for snorkelling.
The calm waters lap the shore which is surrounded by lush green hills, making for a very beautiful spot to spend the day.
5. Tanjung Tinggi Beach, Belitung, Indonesia
Skip the overcrowded beaches of Bali and instead head to the Indonesian island of Belitung.
The beaches here have distinctive round boulders and clear, warm water.
4. Nongsa Beach, Batam, Indonesia
Another Indonesian gem that has flown under the radar, Nongsa is peaceful and laid back, even though it's just 10 minutes from the airport.
3. Iboih Beach, Pulau Weh, Indonesia
If you like snorkelling or diving, this is the spot for you! Though it is a relatively busy beach, it's still clean and doesn't feel crowded. Plus, accommodation here is around $48 a night, according to Omio.
2. Pantai Tusan Bekenu, Borneo, Malaysia
On the far-flung island of Borneo is Tusan Beach, famous for the rock formation which has been dubbed "horse head rock".
It's a unique spot, where the beach is clean, the water is clear, and the sunset is breathtaking.
