Inside Singapore Airlines' crazy first class suite, dubbed the 'hotel in the sky'

Hot on the heels of YouTube star Casey Neistat's glowing review of Emirates first class suites last week, one aviation expert has taken to social media to declare a new winner for best seat in the sky.

Twenty-year-old Alex Macheras from London, got the opportunity to road test the brand spanking new Singapore Airlines A380 first class suite last week, and he reckons its hands-down the best out there.

In a delivery flight from Airbus HQ in Toulouse, France to Singapore Changi Airport, Macheras — whose actual job is to jet-set around the world, testing out new carriers and plush suites — took to Instagram to broadcast his verdict on the premiere offering.

And well, he said it's like being inside Air Force One (and he would know).

The analyst compared the cavernous upstairs suites to being more like "a hotel in the sky" owing to the roomy cabins, five-star level of luxury, and the fact you get both a seat and a bed (unlike Emirates' convertible zero gravity beds), according to Daily Mail.

But at around $16,500 one way (9500 pounds), it's a presidential price tag as well.

In the footage, Macheras can be seen travelling through an eerily empty plane, chatting with airline staff, getting cosy with the first class amenities (the whole suite is tablet controlled), and showing off the sprawling private cabin space. Get a sneak peak in the clip above.

While you're unlikely to get any shut-eye in cramped economy sans No-Doze, the A380 bed isn't just good for a bed in the sky — it's something truly luxurious, worthy of a five-star hotel.

Other stand-out features include: plush swivel armchairs (so you can face the window — very neat!), two windows per suite, a big screen TV, and high-tech side-wall panel insulation to reduce aircraft noise.

So impressed was Macheras with the swivel armchairs, which allowed him to face the window and watch a perfect sunset (better than in-flight movies, amirite?), he reckons it sets a whole new standard for air travel.

Emirates and Singapore Airlines have a long-standing rivalry when it comes to fancy air travel bragging rights, with an upgrade announcement by one airline typically followed up with a swift boast by the other.
