Police warn 'muggle' Harry Potter tourists to stop walking famous Scottish trainline

It's been over 15 years since the first Harry Potter book was released but it would appear that fans of the series are still a truly dedicated bunch.

So dedicated in fact, that they are putting their lives at risk by walking the famous viaduct train line featured in the films.

Tourists, so desperate for the perfect shot of the iconic scene, are arriving in hoards and walking up the side of Glenfinnan Viaduct, in the Scottish Highlands, despite it still servicing a Jacobite steam train on a daily basis.

But Scottish police have had enough and have issued a warning to the Harry Potter fans who are planning to arrive throughout the rest of the European summer.

Sgt Kevin Lawrence said: "Much as we love Harry Potter, I would like to remind everyone that we are mere Muggles, and if you trespass on the railway and are struck by a train, the consequences could be extremely serious and probably fatal."

He revealed that an increase in visits to the viaduct is partly behind a 16 per cent rise in railway trespassing offences in Scotland last year.
